HOBBS AND SHAW Adds Eiza Gonzalez to the Cast
Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham are currently working on the Fast and Furious spin-off Hobbs and Shaw. Deadline is now reporting that Eiza Gonzalez from Baby Driver has been added to the film as a co-star. Unfortunately, there is no word on who Gonzalez will be playing in the film, but she does join a pretty big cast that already includes Idris Elba, Vanessa Kirby, and Eddie Marsan.
Hobbs and Shaw is being directed by David Leitch with a script from Chris Morgan. Johnson, Dany Garcia, and Hiram Garcia are producing under the Seven Bucks Production banner. Statham and Morgan are also producing the film.
Fast and Furious franchise writer Chris Morgan wrote the script for the film, and while we don't know the story, Leitch explains that the film will steer away from the street racing and dive into the world of spies and government agents:
"We’re diving into their world. I think we want to have our own take on the Fast universe. It will definitely have elements of the original DNA, but it is more drifting into Shaw’s spy word and Dwayne’s agent world and, obviously, we want to build on their relationship, their conflict, their banter. That chemistry that they have between them, that’s sort of what’s driving the movie."
The movie will hit theaters on August 2, 2019. How many more Fast and Furious movies can be made?
