Holy Payday, Batman! Adam West’s BATMAN Costume Collection Sells for Nearly $1 Million at Auction

A recent auction proved that the Caped Crusader still reigns supreme, with Adam West’s vintage Batman costume from the classic 1966 TV series selling for nearly $1 million, leaving Lynda Carter’s Wonder Woman outfit far behind.

The sale took place on October 24 during Heritage Auctions’ “Television Treasures Collection,” featuring items from the late Dr. Stewart Berkowitz, a legendary pop-culture collector whose private stash included treasures from Star Trek, Happy Days, and more.

The big draw of the event turned out to be Batman memorabilia. The matching suits worn by West and Burt Ward (Robin) brought in a combined $575,000, setting the tone for a massive payday for Gotham’s heroes and villains alike.

The Joker’s vibrant purple suit worn by Cesar Romero sold for $212,000, while Yvonne Craig’s Batgirl costume went for $87,500. Julie Newmar’s sleek Catwoman outfit snagged $68,750, and Burgess Meredith’s Penguin tuxedo fetched $46,250.

Together, these iconic pieces racked up an incredible $989,500, and that total climbs even higher when you factor in the sale of the Batcave’s Batscanner console ($150,000) and Batman’s Batarang and holster ($50,000). Add it all up, and the total easily soars past the million-dollar mark.

In comparison, Carter’s red, white, and blue Wonder Woman costume from her 1975–79 ABC/CBS series sold for $225,000. The outfit came complete with her signature golden cuff bracelets and the Lasso of Truth, but even those iconic touches couldn’t compete with the nostalgia-driven frenzy surrounding West’s Batman collection.

Other TV treasures also drew attention, including Henry Winkler’s two Fonzie leather jackets from Happy Days ($87,500 and $75,000), William Shatner’s two Star Trek Captain Kirk uniforms ($62,500 and $52,500), and Barbara Eden’s pink harem costume from I Dream of Jeannie ($42,500).

Dr. Berkowitz, who passed away in 2024 at the age of 64, spent decades building one of the most impressive pop-culture collections in the world. His love for television history clearly resonated with fans, and this auction made one thing clear, when it comes to classic TV heroes, Batman wins the game.
