HOME ALONE Almost Had a Great Post Credits Scene!
I’ve been watching Home Alone every Christmas for years, and I know my fair share of behind-the-scenes details regarding the movie. But, until recently, I had no idea that there was actually a post-credits scene written for the movie that never ended up in the film, but it would have been a perfect ending for the movie!
This was pointed out by Joe Ramoni, creator of the YouTube channel Hats Off Entertainment. A video was recently released titled “The Lost Version of Home Alone.” In his research, he shared a screenshot from an alternate draft of the film’s script, which was written by John Hughes and Chris Columbus.
The post-credits scene would have seen the Wet Bandits, Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern), in prison after being arrested at the end of the movie. They would have been watching TV with their fellow inmates watching the infamous movie-within-a-movie, Angels with Filthy Souls.
As they’re watching the movie, they look at each other and a lightbulb goes off in their heads and they realize where they heard it before and it would have been such a great payoff. It’s such a great ending! I’m not sure why the scene didn’t make it into the film, but it’s a shame that we never got to see it.
