Hooded Horse to Publish Sci-Fi RTS Survival Game FRAGILE EXISTENCE Later This Year
Fragile Existence is a sci-fi real-time strategy survival game developed by Fragile Continuum and Hooded Horse recently announced they would publish the game on PC later this year. The game sees the player in charge of helping humanity’s last survivors continue on their journey after Earth’s destruction. However, Fragile Existence isn’t your average strategy game. Players won’t be tasked with building and expanding their empire. Instead, your task is to keep the passengers and crew on your ships happy, maintain faction loyalties, build up bases, and wage ground combat while being chased by an enemy. You will constantly be having to flee to save your people and that’s an interesting touch. The game will also feature a Planet and System Editor so you can create your own campaigns and custom experiences.
Fragile Existence puts you in charge of humanity's lone survivors following the annihilation of Earth by an unknown enemy force. On the run from an unrelenting, unstoppable threat, you must explore giant star systems and gather the resources needed to sustain your fleet, both in space and on the surface of fully rendered 3D planets and moons.
Instead of controlling an ever-expanding empire, as in most strategy games, Fragile Existence requires you to take your civilization with you as you flee an enemy forever on your heels. Keep passengers and crew happy, maintain the loyalties of the factions aboard the fleet, and seamlessly zoom out from ground to space as you command ships, construct bases, and wage ground combat. The deep real-time strategy simulation with an active pause mechanic also lets you dropship units and buildings to the surface of moons and planets, crash space ships and ground units into physical objects, and use fleets in orbit to bombard surface targets (or vice versa).
Talking about the game, Lee Harris who serves as the solo developer on the project said:
What started as a portfolio piece to help land myself a job in the games industry has grown in very many different directions during this last two years of solo development, and since mid-2021 the team from Hooded Horse have long been supportive of the project behind the scenes, freely offering up advice and tips to myself amongst many others with the intention only of seeing interesting projects reach fruition. When it became time for me to seek a publishing partner with whom the Fragile Existence project could truly strive to become something substantial in the strategy genre, the team from Hooded Horse were the only real candidates on my list, and I'm very excited to be working with them going forward.
Tim Bender of Hooded Horse shared his excitement as well:
We're thrilled to have the chance to work with Lee and publish Fragile Existence, as we've been following the project closely and are big believers in the game. Fragile Existence blends survival elements into the RTS genre, giving players the chance to immerse themselves in the struggle of a lone fleet of survivors trying desperately to survive on the run. This is a theme that has been central to some great works of science fiction, and Lee is taking an innovative and fun approach to it.
Fragile Existence will be localized into Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Spanish, French, and German thanks to the publishing arrangement and is set to release later this year. You can add the game to your Steam wish list now.
