HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 3 Beats Out SKYSCRAPER At The Box Office

Dwayne Johnson has been defeated at the box office by a film about monsters going on a cruise. Hotel Transylvania 3 won out the weekend with a $44 million box office take, leaps and bounds away from Skyscraper's $25.5 million. It gets just a bit worse for Skyscraper, as the film ended up finishing third on its premiere week as Ant-Man and the Wasp pulled in $29.5 million (via Huffington Post) to secure the number 2 spot this week.

The news is a bit shocking, but only when you try and recall a time in the past few years where Dwayne Johnson played a lead in a film of questionable quality, and it didn't destroy in its first weekend at the box office. He's one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood for a reason, with that reason being people see whatever he's in regardless of how it looks. Could this be the beginning of the end of an era? I doubt it, but I'm curious to see if this trend continues the next time he pushes out a film of similar quality.
