HOUSE OF THE DRAGON Season 3 Will Open With One of the Bloodiest Battles in Westeros History

It looks like we better brace ourselves for House of the Dragon Season 3, because according to HBO’s head of drama series and films, Francesca Orsi, the new season will kick off with one of the most brutal conflicts ever written by George R.R. Martin: The Battle of the Gullet.

Orsi told Deadline: "I’m really excited. I think you’re going to be in for a great surprise on how we start the [season] with an exciting battle."

Originally, fans expected to see this war unfold at the end of Season 2, but with the season trimmed down to eight episodes, it was left on a cliffhanger as both Team Black and Team Green gearing up for bloodshed.

Orsi promises it will be worth the wait, saying: "I don’t think we had the time at that point to do what it is that we’ve achieved now this season. It’s just so massive, we needed the time to build it."

If you’ve read Fire & Blood, you already know the details of the catastrophic The Battle of the Gullet. The clash sees the Triarchy (aligned with Team Green) take on House Velaryon’s fleet (backing Team Black) in a full-scale naval war.

Then there are the dragons raining hell from the sky. It’s one of the most devastating battles in Westeros, with consequences that ripple throughout the Dance of the Dragons.

Westeros is no stranger to blood-drenched battlefields, but this epic, large-scale takes place on water. Orsi went on to share: "One of the lead producers on it [Kevin de la Noy] actually worked on Titanic."

While HBO hasn’t dropped an official synopsis yet, fans can expect to see familiar faces return, including Matt Smith (Daemon Targaryen), Emma D’Arcy (Rhaenyra Targaryen), Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower), and Ewan Mitchell (Aemond Targaryen).

House of the Dragon Season 3 is shaping up to be an all-out bloodbath, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

House of the Dragon Season 3 does not yet have a release date.
