HOUSE OF THE DRAGON Star Promises Season 3 Will Be "Bigger and More Ferocious"
Fans of House of the Dragon have a lot to look forward to, as Olivia Cooke is teasing an explosive start to the upcoming third season of the Game of Thrones prequel.
While promoting her new series The Girlfriend, Cooke gave Collider a taste of what’s in store.
"Well, I think I can say... it starts off with a bang. The first two [episodes] were essentially supposed to be our finale last year. So you can just imagine coming into that sort of energy. It's bigger and more ferocious than ever before."
Cooke will once again step back into the role of Alicent Hightower, and while she kept her comments brief, her tease lines up with what showrunner Ryan Condal has previously promised. Speaking on his podcast The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of with David Mandel, Condal explained just how massive the new season has become.
"Every day I walk around [the set] and look at the things that we're building and the things that we're doing and the number of costumes and extras and all that. I knew it was bigger than season 2, but I don't think I realized quite how much."
Set 200 years before Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon follows the downfall of House Targaryen and their bloody power struggle against the Hightowers. Season 1 spanned decades, chronicling King Viserys Targaryen’s (Paddy Considine) decision to name his daughter Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock/Emma D’Arcy) as heir, despite the ambitions of his brother Daemon (Matt Smith) and his marriage to Alicent Hightower.
Season 2 intensified the conflict after the shocking death of Rhaenyra’s son and the coronation of King Aegon II, setting the stage for all-out war.
If Cooke and Condal’s words are anything to go by, Season 3 isn’t going waste any time throwing fans into the chaos. With battles escalating, rivalries deepening, and the promise of more fire and blood, the next chapter of Westeros looks to deliver on the scale fans have been waiting for.
House of the Dragon airs on HBO and Max in the US, and on Sky and NOW in the UK. Season 3 is currently set to premiere in 2026.
