How STAR WARS Influenced ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA According To The Director
A lot of people who have watched Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania are talking about the tone of the film and how it has Star Wars vibes. And as it turns out, Ant-Man franchise director Peyton Reed, who has also helmed two episodes of The Mandalorian, was inspired by Star Wars when making the movie, and in a recent interview with CB, he addressed that influence, saying:
"Well, what was exciting to me is, again, it was a thrill to work on Mandalorian obviously, as a lifelong Star Wars fan. And, certainly, the environments that George Lucas kicked off many, many years ago have made an indelible stamp on generations now.”
He went on to talk about the freedom the creative team had to build out the Quantum Realm and how it was a little corner of the MCU that they were about to build out the way they wanted:
“What was cool about Quantumania is the Ant-Man movies kind of owned the Quantum Realm. I mean, they'd pass through it and use it for the timelines in Endgame. But, it was ours. We were free to create whatever. So I assembled this team of artists from all over, under Will Htay our production designer. And just went through all their art and talked to them and like, show me some of the most whacked-out creations you have. And maybe we can work this in and like, you know it can be anything we want it to be. We have to figure out sort of what the internal logic and the internal history of the Quantum Realm is. And, what are the laws of physics? And, what do these various areas look like? And that was the most fun we've had, because we didn't owe to anything else that had, you know, appeared in the MCU. It was our own little corner that we could carve out."
The latest Marvel movie has been met with mixed reviews by fans, and while it’s not perfect and it has some issues, it was also a fun flick with some silly entertaining moments. If you watched the movie over the weekend, what did you think?
