How Would You Have Liked to See STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER Come to an End?
Whether you liked it or not, lots of fans have their own ideas of how they would have liked to see Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker come to an end. I liked the movie, I enjoyed the experience of watching it, and I’m ultimately fine with how it ended. But that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t have wanted to see things play out differently.
If you haven’t watched the movie yet, you might want to skip this because there will be heavy discussion regarding the end of the film.
Before the movie came out I was completely against Kylo Ren finding redemption. That’s something I was dead set against. But the way it happened in the film softened me up a bit with his dad Han Solo showing up to help guide and inspire him to come back into the light. From that moment on, I was fine with Kylo, a.k.a. Ben Solo, trying to redeem himself.
I actually wish that J.J.Abrams would have allowed him to actually have the time to do good works for his redemption. I wasn’t happy when he ended up being killed off as he had no time to truly be redeemed. I think the ending would have been much more powerful if Rey had been the one who died while saving the Galaxy with Ben Solo left to pick up the pieces and make up for the terrible mistakes that he made throughout his life by doing good deeds.
I understand why they let Rey live, but still, her making the ultimate sacrifice would have been the more powerful ending. When Ben was holding her in his arms, I was really hoping Abrams wouldn’t do the obvious safe thing and bring her back to life, but that’s exactly what he did. I also don’t think Rey and Ben should’ve kissed. That felt so awkward and out of place.
Also, in the moment that Rey is trying to find the strength within herself to fight Palpatine, we hear the voices of the past Jedi encouraging her and building her confidence. I wish that we would have seen the Force Ghosts of these characters! I also think the audiences would have appreciated it. While the film was packed to the brim with fan service, this is the one piece of fan service that I was hoping to see that didn’t happen.
These are just a couple of things that I would have liked to see play out differently in the film. What are some changes that you would have made? What are some things you would have liked to see play out differently? What are your ideas for how the movie should have ended?
