Gillian Anderson Slips Back Into Dana Scully Mode to Celebrate LEGO's Awesome New THE X-FILES Set

Fans are still waiting to see what Ryan Coogler has planned for his upcoming reboot of The X-Files, but in the meantime, there's a fun new way to revisit one of the greatest sci-fi series ever made.

LEGO has unveiled its first official The X-Files set, and to make the reveal even better, Gillian Anderson stepped back into the role of Dana Scully for a promotional video celebrating the release.

The new LEGO Ideas set is exactly the kind of collectible longtime fans have been hoping for. Made up of 1,478 pieces and priced at $199.99, the build recreates Fox Mulder's iconic basement office, complete with the famous "I Want to Believe" poster, pencils stuck in the ceiling, and plenty of details pulled straight from the series. Mulder, played by David Duchovny, is joined by Scully, while the build also hides another memorable location.

Lift away the office and you'll find a second display featuring a forest UFO encounter with a hovering spacecraft and a grey alien waiting to be discovered. The two sections can also be displayed separately, making for a pretty fantastic shelf piece whether you're more interested in the investigations or the extraterrestrials.

The set was designed by Australian 3D artist and fan designer Brent Waller, who originally submitted the project through the LEGO Ideas '90s Nostalgia Challenge. After receiving official approval from LEGO last year, the set is finally headed to stores, launching August 1 for LEGO Early Access members before opening up to everyone on August 4.

LEGO also packed the set with an impressive lineup of minifigures. Alongside Mulder and Scully, fans will get Walter Skinner, Mr. X, Alex Krycek, Carl Busch, The Flukeman, and a grey alien, giving collectors plenty of familiar faces from across the series.

Anderson was clearly excited to revisit the world of The X-Files while helping introduce the set. She said: "I didn't expect to be stepping back into Scully's heels to investigate a LEGO set ... it has been so much fun revisiting that world all these years later.

“This set is a wonderful celebration of the X-Files, and the fans who have kept its mystery alive. The level of detail is brilliant – there are so many little nods that fans will absolutely recognise – and as a LEGO fan myself, I love that people can now quite literally build their own X-Files moments at home."

For Waller, this project has been years in the making. What started as a personal passion project eventually became an official LEGO release. He explained:

"I was obsessed with The X-Files from the moment I first saw it in the '90s. I originally built Mulder's office back in 2014 while rewatching the series, and it grew from there as a personal project.

“I wanted to combine nostalgia, detail and storytelling to capture the atmosphere of the show – from Mulder's office to the forest and UFO encounter. I'm thrilled to see it become an official LEGO set and hope it resonates with both long-time fans and new audiences."

There's another nice bonus for collectors as well. Anyone who picks up The X-Files LEGO set between August 1 and August 10 will also receive Scully's Lab as a Gift with Purchase, while supplies last.

Between the incredible attention to detail, the deep-cut character selection, and Anderson's return as Scully to help launch it, this is shaping up to be one of LEGO's coolest TV-inspired releases in quite some time.
