Quentin Tarantino's STAR TREK Film Moves Forward with THE REVENANT Screenwriter
In case you thought this R-rated Star Trek film from Quentin Tarantino was a joke, Paramount Pictures is actually really serious about it and they just hired a screenwriter! It was previously reported that the screenwriter of The Revenant, Mark L. Smith, was in talks to write the film and he's the guy they ended up hiring.
According to Deadline, Tarantino really wants to direct this movie and he's producing it alongside J.J. Abrams. This is certainly going to be unlike any Star Trek film that we've ever seen before and I'm so excited to see what Tarantino and this creative team delivers.
The report goes on to say that "Smith became a favorite of both Paramount and Abrams after he scripted Overlord, the Julius Avery-directed Bad Robot-produced WWII thriller about two American soldiers caught behind enemy lines on D-Day."
As a long time fan of Tarantino and Star Trek, I'm looking forward to this, but I know a lot of Star Trek fans aren't. They are afraid that this won't feel like a Star Trek movie, and you know what? It probably won't! But, that doesn't mean it won't turn out to be a good crazy movie that tells a great story. As long as it manages to entertain me, I'll be satisfied.
The other thing we have to keep in mind is that Tarantino is a big fan of the original Gene Roddenberry Star Trek series and The Next Generation, so I imagine that he'll make sure to show respect to the franchise and the characters as he develops this next chapter.
This is a film project that Tarantino will probably fully jump into as soon as he's done with his 1969 Sharon Tate/Manson Family movie.
