Hugh Jackman Becomes a Broken, Battleworn Legend in Trailer for THE DEATH OF ROBIN HOOD

A24 has released the first official trailer for The Death of Robin Hood, and it’s a grim, stripped-down take on the classic outlaw story that feels closer to a reckoning than a swashbuckling adventure.

The film stars Hugh Jackman as an older, damaged Robin Hood, a man weighed down by violence, regret, and the cost of a lifetime spent outside the law. He’s old man Robin Hood.

This isn’t the heroic folk tale we know. According to the official logline, the film centers on a Robin Hood who is “grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder.”

Time has caught up with him, and the trailer makes it clear that the legend is fading. Jackman’s version of the character is described as “a battleworn loner [who] finds himself gravely injured and in the hands of a mysterious woman, who offers him a chance at salvation.”

That mysterious woman is played by Jodie Comer, who will bring empathy and intensity to the story. The cast around Jackman is stacked with strong character actors, including Bill Skarsgård, Noah Jupe, and Murray Bartlett.

The film is written and directed by Michael Sarnoski, who previously earned major praise for Pig and later followed it up with A Quiet Place: Day One. His style leans heavily into character-driven storytelling, and that approach fits perfectly with a version of Robin Hood that’s more interested in consequence than legend.

Production took place in Northern Ireland, which gives the film a rugged, grounded backdrop that matches its somber tone.

A24 picked up the U.S. rights to The Death of Robin Hood out of Cannes in 2024 and will handle domestic distribution. True Brit Entertainment will release the film in the U.K. and Ireland, while WME Independent represents the foreign rights.

If the trailer is any indication, The Death of Robin Hood isn’t interested in celebrating myths. It wants to examine the damage left behind, and ask what’s left of a man once the legend dies.

This looks like a haunting and compelling new chapter for one of fiction’s most famous outlaws. The movie is set to be released later this year.
