Hugh Jackman Claims Almost an Hour of X-MEN Was Cut, Changing the Whole Movie
Recently while being interviewed about his current film Reminiscence, Wolverine himself, Hugh Jackman, said that we are missing about 47 minutes of footage from the original X-Men.
While speaking with Collider’s Steve Weintraub, Jackman was asked what film he has worked on that was changed the most in the editing process. Here is what he had to say:
Hugh, I am curious, of the films that you've made, which of them do you think changed the most in the editing room versus what you thought you were making, if any?
JACKMAN: X-Men One.
JACKMAN: I'm probably speaking out of school, Steve. But a week before it came out, I think it was 47 minutes longer.
JACKMAN: I may be exaggerating or under exaggerating... It was a lot. And maybe the week is an exaggeration, but I certainly... What we shot on, I remember going, "What happened to that scene and that character/ what? Wait, whoa." That movie from memory is about 100 minutes, I think. It was a lot longer, a lot longer, so that was definitely a big surprise to me.
I would love to get the Singer Cut of this film. This is still one of my favorite superhero movies. It is a strange dynamic for me though. I love the movie, but it also has one of the worst lines of dialogue in all of movie history. “Do you know what happens to a toad when it’s struck by lightning?” Ew! I can’t believe they let that line through but cut a significant scene from the movie. Give me a break.
I would love to know what the scene was about and why the producers felt that it should be scrapped. Are you interested on what it would be? Or should we just let it be? Let us know what you think.
