Hugh Jackman Explains How Jerry Seinfeld Convinced Him To Walk Away From Playing Wolverine
Hugh Jackman has been playing Wolverine since the 2000 X-Men movie. He’s so great in that role and it was pretty awesome to learn he will be back to reprise his role in Deadpool 3! That was completely unexpected because the actor had previously announced he was retiring from the role. While I hoped he would come back, I thought that it was a long shot that he actually would!
As it turns out, one of the reasons he decided to walk away from Wolverine for the time that he did, was because of comedian Jerry Seinfeld. It was Seinfeld who convinced him! During an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Jackman shared the advice that Seinfeld shared with him, saying:
"He said, 'Look, when you're creating something, it's very important not to run yourself dry. It's not about finishing on top, necessarily, but making sure that you're, creatively, still got something left, which propels you into whatever's next.'"
That’s kind of hard to argue with as it’s a good and strong point. This conversation actually took place before Jackman shot Logan, and when that came up, he knew that would be his last one… at the time. The actor added:
"The next morning I wake up at four in the morning and I record into a voice memo because I had this really strong idea of what to do for the last one."
He went on and made that movie, which was absolutely incredible! It was the perfect story for Jackman to go out on. I would have been fine if that was his last movie. But, it’s not! Jackman has found the excitement to play the character at least one more time, as he and Ryan Reynolds reunite for, what is sure to be, one hell of a crazy Marvel adventure!
