Hugh Jackman Predicted AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY in a 2013 Interview for THE WOLVERINE

It turns out Hugh Jackman might’ve seen the future. A resurfaced 2013 interview from the press tour for The Wolverine is making the rounds online, and in it, Jackman talks about bringing a lot of different Marvel characters from multiple studios into one big film.

At the time, it sounded like pure fan fantasy. Now, with the Multiverse Saga in full swing and the X-Men finally under Marvel Studios’ roof, it feels like he was reading from the MCU’s long-term playbook.

Jackman first popped his claws as Wolverine in 2000’s X-Men and went on to play the character in X2: X-Men United, X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, X-Men: First Class, The Wolverine, X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse, and Logan.

That last film was supposed to close the book on his run. Then Marvel Studios got involved and convinced him to return for Deadpool & Wolverine. Now he’s expected to show up in Avengers: Doomsday, Avengers: Secret Wars, and possibly even beyond that as the Mutant Saga continues to unfold.

But let’s rewind to 2013.

During an interview promoting The Wolverine, Jackman floated an idea that felt impossible at the time. The clip going viral today features him saying:

"I believe...maybe I'm optimistic. I understand at Marvel, they've got Avengers," Jackman says below. "They've got a lot of big things going on. I find it almost impossible that there's not a way [to take] Iron Man, all the Avengers characters, Wolverine, the X-Men characters, Spider-Man, and somehow get them in all together."

Back then, that crossover was a pipe dream. Sony Pictures was gearing up to release The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and 20th Century Fox still controlled the X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises.

The idea of Iron Man sharing the screen with Wolverine or Spider-Man teaming up with the X-Men felt like something that would only ever happen in comic panels.

Fast forward to now. The Disney acquisition of 20th Century Fox changed everything. Marvel Studios also worked out a deal with Sony that brought Spider-Man into the MCU on loan. Slowly but surely, the walls between those universes came down.

Now we’re staring down Avengers: Doomsday, which is rumored to feature Wolverine and Deadpool alongside Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man. That’s the kind of team-up fans used to argue about in comment sections for years.

Even better, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has reportedly wanted to bring Maguire and Jackman together on screen for decades. If that finally happens, it’ll feel like a full-circle moment for superhero cinema.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on December 18, with Avengers: Secret Wars following on December 17, 2027.
