Hugh Jackman Weighs in on Rumors about When His Wolverine Will Make a Return to the MCU

Just when he thought he was out, Marvel pulled him back in! Hugh Jackman reigned as the X-Men universe’s Wolverine for many years. He wrapped that era with the final film Logan, which completed his arc, and put a bow on the super mutant’s storyline.

Jackman went on to work on other projects in his career, brushing aside the idea that he would ever return to the role, until Ryan Reynolds and Marvel head Kevin Feige pitched him the idea of Deadpool & Wolverine.

That movie was a box office smash, and fans enjoyed it so much that they immediately wanted to know when we could plan on seeing Jackman return again.

His name didn’t make the first round of Avengers: Doomsday announcements, though he was not the only character missing. Feige assured us that we could count on seeing more cast lists released leading up to the film’s release next year, but we are still waiting!

As for Jackman, when he was asked on The Graham Norton Show (via Digital Spy), about coming back as Wolverine for an Avengers movie, the actor responded, “Maybe. I’m never saying ‘never’ ever again. I did mean it until the day I changed my mind. I did mean it for quite a few years. I have done ten films now, so I think they have enough for an AI version of me!”

Firstly, he obviously can’t be the one to announce his return before the studio, so he is wisely evading the question.

Secondly, it’s funny that he’s saying to just use AI, because Jackman is known for getting in crazy good shape for this role, and at 57, I’m sure it’s more difficult every time, not to mention the stunts and physicality of the part.

So we will just have to wait and see how it all plays out, but I am hoping to see him return!
