Hugo Weaving Cast in Mel Gibson’s HACKSAW RIDGE
Director Mel Gibson started shooting his new film, Hacksaw Ridge, a couple of weeks ago, and even released a photo featuring the film's stars Andrew Garfield, Vince Vaughn, and Sam Worthington.
Variety is reporting that Huge Weaving (The Matrix, The Lord of the Rings) has now joined the cast of the World War II drama. Hacksaw Ridge tells the true story of the "307th Infantry, 77th Army Division, 1st Battalion, Company B as they train for battle. The story begins at a base camp in South Carolina and follows the recruits as they learn basic wartime survival skills before being deployed to Japan where they come face to face with the action at the Battle of Okinawa."
Garfield plays Desmond T. Doss in the story. He was the first conscientious objector to receive the US congressional Medal of Honor after acts of bravery and sacrifice, saving 75 men during the Battle of Okinawa. Weaving will be playing his father, Tom Doss.
The site also reports that Australian actor Ryan Corr has also joined the cast in the movie and that he will be playing a character named Lt. Manville.
The last feature film that Gibson directed was Apocalypto back in 2006. He's managed to get a great cast together for his latest project, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
