Ice Cube and His Son May Team Up For L.A. Riots Thriller

Ice Cube and his son O’Shea Jackson Jr. blew up the box office with their hit Straight Outta Compton, and now they might be teaming up again for another film project. The movie is called April 29, 1992, and it’s a thriller that will revolve around the L.A. riots, which were briefly touched on in Straight Outta Compton.

Donovan Marsh is directing the film from a script by Sascha Penn. It will tell the story of an ex-criminal (Cube) “who must save his son when a group of thugs raid his place of work in the hopes to steal an expensive amount of platinum.”

THR reports that the younger Jackson’s acting “generated strong reviews and convinced the studio a father-son team-up was feasible. Insiders, however, caution that talks are in the early stages and deals may not make.”

Three years ago, Justin Lin (Fast and Furious franchise) was going to direct an L.A. riots film, but I haven’t heard anything since it was announced, so it’s most likely not happening anymore.

I remember when the L.A. riots happened. I was watching the events unfold on TV, I remember seeing fiery smoke rising from the city when I went outside. It was crazy. The riots ignited after the four LAPD officers charged with beating Rodney King were acquitted. Fifty-three people were killed, two thousand were injured, and there was over $1 billion dollars in property damage.

What do you all think about Ice Cube and his son possibly taking on this film project?
