Ice Cube Says FRIDAY 4 Has "Some Traction at Warner Bros." and That They're "Working on It"

Ice Cube has been working hard at trying to get a fourth Friday movie made, and it’s been a frustrating experience for him. The actor has been trying to get the rights to the property back from Warner Bros. so he could make the movie.

Now it seems like he’s working with WB, and they are in the process of making something happen. The actor shared the recent update during an appearance on Flavor Flav’s SiriusXM show “Flavor of the Week.”

Cube said: “We’re working on it. We finally got some traction with Warner Bros. They have new leadership, my man Mike De Luca, who used to be at New Line when I first started, when I first did the first Friday and Players Club and All About the Benjamins.

“Mike De Luca was there…So, now he’s running Warner Bros. And him and my man Michael Gruber was like, ‘Yo, what the f*ck is going on with Friday? Man, let’s get this shit back online.'”

Ice Cube has been trying to get another Friday movie off the ground for years, so it looks like there’s a chance it will finally happen.

When previously talking about the project, which is referred to as Last Friday, Cube said: "I don't know. Warner Bros. is weird right now. I don't know what they're doing. They don't know what they're doing.

“We'd love to have it back. I think it's going be close to a time when we get it back. So, we'll either wait for that time, or we'll keep trying to convince them that they need to let us control the movie. It's my movie, but they have distribution control."

He added: "I ain't putting shit up for it. F*ck no. They need to give it to me, and they're going to make money. I'm not about to pay for my own stuff, that's stupid. They need to do the right thing, get it to us, let us turn it into more money, and make the fans happy…We can do a lot with it."

Cube wrote a couple of sequels for Friday that the studio initially rejected. When explaining why, he said: "They were like, 'Yo, we don't want Craig and Day Day in jail,’ because Craig and Day Day went to jail for selling weed before it was legal."

He then added: "That shit is funny. After they rejected it, they had all these movies about going to jail. Orange Is the New Black, Get Hard, so I was like, 'Man, see, y'all f*cked me up.'"

Cube's second script was "about the youngsters in the hood having beef with the OGs in the hood, and Craig has to come back and squash that. Because Smokey's [Tucker's] son is the new Deebo [Tommy Lister Jr.], and he's wilding."

In regards to that one, Cube said WB "tripped on it. They fucked around, and then John Witherspoon [who played Craig's father, Willie Jones] passed, [Lister Jr.] passed, [Ezal actor A.J. Johnson] passed. There's a lot of characters who were going to go back to the hood. They just f*cked it up."

There’s no word on what version of Last Friday he’ll develop. It could be one of these or it could be something completely different. We’ll just have to wait and see.
