Ice Cube Teases His Cameo in ANACONDA, Calling It a "Full Circle" After Having Starred in the Original

The new movie Anaconda has the same name as the 1997 action thriller, but this 2025 action comedy is taking itself much less seriously. The first film followed a film crew who is taken hostage by an insane hunter, who forces them along on his quest to capture the world's largest, and deadliest snake.

This new take follows best friends who are huge fans of that movie, who are looking to remake it, but they run into deadly and hilarious missteps along the way.

Seemingly, the only throughlines of the two films are the snake itself, and actor Ice Cube, who played a cameraman in the first movie and will appear in a cameo role in the second.

During Saturday’s Los Angeles premiere of the Sony Pictures comedy, Ice Cube revealed that he makes an appearance in the Tom Gormican co-written/directed movie, nearly 30 years after playing cameraman Danny Rich in the first film.

According to People, he told reporters:

“It’s cool to do a cameo, to kind of make it go full circle in a way. When they asked me to do it, when I knew the kind of movie they were doing, I jumped at it. I’m like, ‘This is something different. It’s cool.' People probably get a kick out of me popping on the screen.”

Anaconda follows Doug (Jack Black) and Griff (Paul Rudd), who have been best friends since they were kids, and have always dreamed of remaking their all-time favorite movie: the cinematic “classic” Anaconda.

When a midlife crisis pushes them to finally go for it, they head deep into the Amazon to start filming. But things get real when an actual giant anaconda appears, turning their comically chaotic movie set into a deadly situation. The movie they’re dying to make? It might just get them killed.

Anaconda hits theaters everywhere on Christmas. Will you be heading to the theatre to see it? I’m looking forward to it.
