Idina Menzel and Billy Porter in Talks to Join Camila Cabello in Sony's CINDERELLA
We’ve got a new Cinderella coming our way from Sony Pictures that will star the singer Camila Cabello. The star was cast two months ago, and we now have a couple more in talks to join the classic fairy tale. Idina Menzel, known for her award-winning performances in Broadway's Rent and Wicked, as well as the voice of Elsa in Frozen, is in talks to take on the role of Cinderella’s step-mother, Lady Tremaine.
This character has never had a singing role, but maybe they’ll be able to work up a song for her. I assume they’re making this iteration a musical since they cast the pop singer Cabello in the lead role.
The other character they are looking to cast is the Fairy Godmother. They have been in preliminary talks with Billy Porter (American Horror Story, Pose) to take on the role, but nothing has been set in stone regarding the casting. I guess we will wait and see. I like Cinderella, but I would always prefer to hear a new story. How do you feel about it?
