Idris Elba and Jessica Chastain Are Both Up For Being in IT: CHAPTER 2
IT: Chapter 2 can't get here soon enough. One of the main things I'm excited about learning regarding the sequel is the actors who will be cast to play the older versions of the kids. I have a feeling that a lot of big actors are going to be gunning for these roles in the film.
Jessica Chastain has been a fan favorite to take on the role of Beverly Marsh. She has even said that she wants to be a part of the film and there's a good chance that will happen because she is very close friends with the director Andy Muschietti and his wife and producer Barbara Muschietti.
During an interview with ScreenRant, which you can watch below, Chastain once again says that she hopes she will be able to be a. part of the movie. But, now we've got Idris Elba saying that he would like to be a part of the sequel as well, even though he hasn't even seen the first one yet.
Some fans feel that he would work great in the role of Mike Hanlon. We'll just have to wait and see if he eventually ends up being cast in the film or not. I think he'd be great in the role! He's an awesome actor.
It was previously revealed that the director has a very different vision of Mike Hanlon than what is in the book. According to Muschietti, the choice Mike makes to stay comes with a high price as it weakens him mentally and physically. In the book, Mike is just a regular old librarian, who collects details on Derry's horrific history. In the sequel, the director wants to make him a librarian junkie.
“My idea of Mike in the second movie is quite darker from the book. I want to make his character the one pivotal character who brings them all together, but staying in Derry took a toll with him. I want him to be a junkie actually. A librarian junkie. When the second movie starts, he’s a wreck.
“He’s not just the collector of knowledge of what Pennywise has been doing in Derry. He will bear the role of trying to figure out how to defeat him. The only way he can do that is to take drugs and alter his mind.”
This is certainly going to be an interesting take on the character, but it's one that I can imagine Idris Elba playing. What do you think about the possibility of seeing Chastain and Elba taking on the role of these characters?
