Idris Elba in Talks For STAR TREK 3 Villain

Last we heard, Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston was rumored to be in contention for the villain role in Paramount's upcoming Star Trek 3. Now it appears the production is courting an actor from another of the greatest shows of all time for the same role: Variety reports that Idris Elba (The Wire, Prometheus, Thor) is in early talks for the villainous role, but there aren't any confirmed details about who exactly he'd be playing.

Early word indicated that the villains in this film would be the Klingons, a race that hasn't yet appeared in a major way in the new movies rebooted by J.J. Abrams. Frankly, I don't really care who the villain is, as long as Elba plays him. He's a stellar actor with a ton of range, and it'd be great to see him chew some scenery like Benedict Cumberbatch did in Star Trek Into Darkness.

Fast Five director Justin Lin is behind the camera this time, and Simon Pegg is co-writing in addition to keeping his role as Scotty. Star Trek 3 hits theaters in time for the franchise's 50th anniversary on July 8th, 2016. We'll be sure to update you with more information as it becomes available, but I'm interested in what you all think: would Elba make a good Star Trek villain?
