Idris Elba in Talks to Star in Supernatural Submersible Thriller DEEPER
Idris Elba is in talks to star in the Max Landis-penned Deeper, about “a former astronaut who was hired to take a submersible to the deepest part of the ocean. Supernatural events transpire as the vehicle gets closer to its destination.”
Currently, Everest director Baltasar Kormakur is signed on to take the helm, and production is scheduled to begin this spring. Previously, Bradley Cooper, Gal Gadot, and director Kornel Mundruczo were expected to team up for the project, but Cooper’s schedule didn’t work out. It will be interesting to see who they bring on for the role Gadot had been in talks for.
Reading the description, I just keep wondering, Is this gonna be like Sphere? Or The Abyss? Or maybe more like Solaris? (Can you imagine a Max Landis take on Solaris?) Presumably it will actually be its own thing, and I hope it is great, because Idris Elba is too precious to waste on a crappy script. If this doesn’t appeal to you, there are plenty of other opportunities to get your Elba fix, as he is in the upcoming Hobbs & Shaw, a comedy series he co-created called Turn-Up Charlie, a new season of Luther, and the film adaptation of Cats (it will never stop being weird that Idris Elba is in Cats). So basically, it’s Idris’s world and we’re all just living in it. Which I for one do not mind in the least.
