Idris Elba has had a pretty good decade as far as his film career goes, but while he’s worked on feature films, he has also played the lead role in the British crime drama Luther. Elba played DCI John Luther, a genius murder detective whose methods help him to solve crimes, but often interfere with his personal life, which is filled with turmoil.

The series lasted for five short seasons over nine years, only 20 episodes total, and the fans of the series have hoped for a follow-up film. Elba has also hoped that could happen, and he recently said it’s looking good. At a press junket promoting season 3 of the star’s comedy series, In the Long Run, he told the audience that there are no “formal plans” for another season of Luther, but he added:

“I’ve made it very clear that I’d like to see Luther come back as a film. And I can tell you this, that we are this close to making a film of Luther.”

He went on to add what he would expect from the project:

“It will be more murder, more Volvos, more frowning Luther. Essentially we just want to try and take it to a much bigger remit and scale and perhaps international as well.”

This sounds great! I have to admit that I didn’t really have Luther on my radar before, but I am totally going to binge it! I love a good British crime drama, and this would be easy to breeze through and get caught up with before the potential film debuts.

Are you a fan of Luther? Are you excited for the promise of a follow-up film?
