Idris Elba Says He Hopes His Spin-Off Film LUTHER: THE FALLEN SUN Is the First of Many at Netflix

Actor Idris Elba’s recently released film Luther: The Fallen Sun has had its theater run as well as its opening weekend on Netflix, and fans are enjoying returning to our favorite BBC inspector, DCI John Luther. The movie is a continuation of the series Luther, which ran for five short seasons between 2010 and 2019. The movie had been a long time coming, and fans would be happy to see Luther’s story continue. As it turns out, Elba would like to see that happen as well.

In a recent interview with ComicBook at the film’s premiere, Elba talked about the advantage of bringing the story to life via film:

"The luxury starts with just having more space to tell a bigger story without breaking it up into episodics. Now we have this massive landscape [and] a bit of a bigger budget. We have more time to get under it. I've always dreamed about what we could do with Luther as a film, outside of 'Luther Land' in London, where can we take it?"

He went on to add:

"Now we have the opportunity. This film, I'm really hoping it's the first of many."

I’m hoping so as well! I got to watch Luther: The Fallen Sun over the weekend, and it was so good. It was a bummer to think it was over with though, so I am hopeful that we see Luther come back in another film adventure.
