Idris Elba Will No Longer Play Deadshot in THE SUICIDE SQUAD, He is Playing Another Character Now
Some interesting news just dropped regarding James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad regarding Idris Elba’s role. The actor was originally cast in the role of Deadshot replacing Will Smith.
Well, Variety is reporting that Elba will no longer be playing Deadshot. In fact, Deadshot isn’t even going to be in the movie anymore. Elba will now play a completely different character in the film.
We don’t know who Elba’s new character will be. In case you’re wondering why they made this change, Variety reports that Elba, Gunn and the creative team have been discussing things and they did “not want to feel as if it was disrespecting Smith, who helped bring this character to life for the first time, by replacing him with Elba.”
I don’t know about you, but I was actually pretty stoked to see Elba in the role of Deadshot! I think he’s a much better choice than Smith. But, maybe they are doing this as a why for Smith to possibly return to the role in the future? I don’t know.
Now I’m just wondering who it is that Elba will end up playing! Some of the other characters rumored to be in the film that Elba could take on include Ratcatcher a.k.a Otis Flannegan, Nanaue a.k.a. King Shark, Polka-Dot Man a.k.a. Mister Polka Dot, and Peacemaker a.k.a. Christopher Smith. You can read more about those characters here.
The movie also stars Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.
While we don’t have any confirmed story details, it is rumored that the current draft of the script could “follow the team on a mission to the Middle East to stop Onslaught and infiltrate their headquarters in Qurac. This seems like a fitting type of story for the ‘Suicide Squad’ that will keep the stakes lower compared to the first film.”
Who do you think Elba will be or should be playing in The Suicide Squad?
The Suicide Squad release date is currently set for Aug. 6, 2021.
