Idris Elba's New Film Project GHETTO COWBOY Involves Redemption Through Urban Horseback Riding

I know a lot of people are hoping Idris Elba will be the next James Bond. It may still happen, but it looks like he has a different project to work on for now. Deadline reports that Elba is set to star in and produce a film called Ghetto Cowboy. This film will be based on the novel by Greg Neri of the same name. If you’re unfamiliar with the novel, here’s a brief synopsis:

Twelve-year-old Cole’s behavior causes his mother to drive him from Detroit to Philadelphia to live with a father he has never known, but who soon has Cole involved with a group of African-American “cowboys” who rescue horses and use them to steer youths away from drugs and gangs.

It certainly sounds interesting and inspirational. I wonder who will get the role of Cole. Elba will be directed by Ricky Staub who also wrote the screenplay alongside Dan Walser. Ghetto Cowboy will be produced by Elba’s Green Door Pictures as well as Jeff Waxman, Jen Madeloff, Sam Mercer, Tegan Jones, and Walser.
