If THE BATMAN Is a Success Warner Bros. Wants to Develop Villain Spinoff Movies

Director Matt Reeves has been putting together a very interesting cast for The Batman. Some fans like what he’s doing with the cast, while others are left a little confused. So far the cast consists of Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and John Turturro as Carmine Falcone.

While we don’t exactly know what the plot of the film will be, it has been rumored that the film’s story would unfold inside Arkham Asylum, which is known to house several of Gotham City’s supervillains. Well, according to Variety, that’s not the case. According to insiders, “only a handful of scenes will be set at Arkham.”

The report also says that if the movie ends up being a success, Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment will be looking to produce spinoff films for the villains introduced in the film. It sounds to me like Warner Bros. is really hoping for a hit that they can build a sold DC film franchise around.

Key cast members in The Batman and Bird of Prey have contract options to appear in sequels and standalone films. Let’s just wait and see how The Batman turns out first.

The Batman will be a noir-style film that will lean into Batman as a detective. It’s scheduled to hit theaters June 25th, 2021.
