If You’re Scared of Spiders, You’re Going to Love This CRAWLERS Trailer
Thanks to the 1990 horror classic Arachnophobia, pretty much everyone knows the official word for being terrified of spiders. If you happen to suffer from it, the trailer for Crawlers probably isn’t something you should watch before going to bed. Or eating. Or looking too closely at the ceiling.
This thing is absolutely crawling with spiders, and they’re showing up in all the places you don’t want them. Ceilings, air ducts, dead bodies and, most horrifyingly, inside someone’s mouth, which actually happened to me for real once!
Crawlers centers on “a catastrophic infestation of venomous and deadly spiders” that takes over an apartment building. Matilda Lutz, who also stars in the new Red Sonja, plays the building manager who finds herself trying to rescue as many trapped residents as she can while the entire place becomes an eight-legged nightmare.
Judging from the trailer, those rescue efforts aren’t exactly going according to plan. The spider-in-the-mouth sequence would have been enough to sell the movie’s particular brand of creepy horror, but Crawlers keeps piling on the nightmare fuel with hundreds of venomous little monsters.
It looks gross, ridiculous and genuinely creepy in exactly the way a spider infestation movie should. Crawlers is directed by Ángel Gómez Hernández and written by Jayson Rothwell, and at just 81 minutes long, it sounds like the movie is aiming to get in, unleash its army of spiders and get out before the concept wears thin.
There’s definitely a chance this could land on the cheesier side of creature-feature horror. Hernández and Rothwell have credits that feel more at home in the deeper reaches of the horror section you eventually stumble into after scrolling through Netflix or Prime Video for way too long.
But that doesn’t necessarily hurt a movie like this. If Crawlers can deliver some nasty spider sequences, effective scares and a couple of unexpected surprises, 81 minutes of arachnid chaos could make for a fun horror flick.
Crawlers will be released in theaters on October 16 by Roadside Attractions and Saban Films.
