IGNITION ASSAULT May Have Been for @Ignisters But I Fell in Love with Two New Archetypes Instead
Ignition Assault is the latest release from Yu-Gi-Oh! and it offers quite a bit for fans to look forward to. Konami was kind enough to send me a booster box and while I didn’t have extreme luck with mine, I did get some great new cards. @Ignister cards got quite a bit of love. Wind Pegasus @Ignister lets you destroy your opponent’s back row and you can even put an opponent’s monster in their deck. Meanwhile, Light Dragon @Ignister (the monster on the box) lets you save your own monsters, destroy monsters, and even bring Link Monsters back from the grave. Those are only two of the dozens of cards by the way.
One of the new archetypes that I’m really interested in are the Ancient Warriors. These are Beast-Warrior monsters. These guys don’t use the Extra Deck at all and seem pretty straightforward. Some of them let you destroy monsters, Special Summon themselves, search your deck and more. I’d be really interested to build a deck using these cards. There’s something about them (maybe their lack of reliance on the Extra Deck) that reminds me of the early years of Yu-Gi-Oh!.
Another new archetype that has me intrigued are the Megaliths. These are Ritual Monsters that you can use to Ritual Summon each other. Megalith Och lets you draw and discard a card when Ritual Summoned, or as a Quick Effect during the Main Phase, you can Ritual Summon a monster. Megalith Phaleg gives all of your monsters a boost based on how many Ritual Monsters are in your graveyard and Megalith Bethor can destroy monsters for each unique Ritual Monster in your Graveyard. I’ve always had a soft spot for Ritual Monsters, so it’s really cool to see this new archetype.
Ignition Assault is a really cool booster pack. I’ve only touched the tip of the iceberg with everything available. Dragonmaids, Generaiders, Karakuris, Mayakashis, Unchained, and Sky Strikers all got new support as well. I personally hope they make new Structure Decks for Megaliths and Ancient Warriors. I know @Ignisters are the stars of this pack, but I really liked these new archetypes.
