Iko Uwais Unleashes Jungle Fury in First Teaser Trailer for His Directorial Debut TIMUR
Straight from Indonesia comes the first teaser trailer for Timur, an intense new action movie that marks Iko Uwais’ debut as a director.
The actor, best known for delivering jaw-dropping fight sequences in The Raid, Fistful of Vengeance, and The Expendables 4, steps behind the camera for the first time to tell a story rooted deeply in his home country’s history.
Timur is based on a real-life military rescue mission with the 1996 Mapendumayang hostage crisis in which 11 scientific researchers, including several Westerners, were taken captive by the Free Papua Movement in the mountains of eastern Indonesia.
Uwais stars as Timur, a special forces soldier tasked with leading a daring operation to save the hostages. The mission, however, quickly becomes more than just a rescue.
As Timur returns to his childhood home to face a jungle full of threats, his sense of duty collides with painful memories and personal demons.
“A soldier named Timur leads a rescue team on a dangerous mission to free researchers kidnapped in the jungle. Trapped in a fraught area, they must face extreme terrain, time pressure, and unexpected dangers.
“The film is based on a real military incident in Indonesia, the Mapendumayang hostage rescue operation that took place in 1996. In this incident, 11 scientific researchers, including a few Westerners, were taken hostage [by the Free Papua Movement] in a mountainous eastern part of the country.”
Joining Uwais in the cast are Jimmy Kobogau, Aufa Assagaf, Yasamin Jasem, Fanny Ghassani, Kiki Narendra, and Andri Mashadi. The script comes from Titien Wattimena, and Ryan Santoso serves as producer.
Timur opens in Indonesian theaters on December 18, 2025, with international release details yet to be announced.
