In Obvious News, Netflix Numbers Are Way Up Since the Start of the Global Pandemic

Most of the world has been home quite a bit more than usual for the past week and a half, with kids out of school, and people working from home. So TVs are working overtime, and everyone is bingeing and catching up on the shows and movies they’ve been wanting to watch for awhile, which means Netflix viewership is way up.

Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos made a recent statement to CNN:

“You can imagine, all viewing is up. It’s up on Netflix, on CNN on television in general. The system has been very robust and can help out a lot of people. People certainly are watching a lot more Netflix. As Governor [Andrew] Cuomo said so beautifully the best thing you can do is stay at home we are trying hard to help.”

As it’s been said, all that is being asked of us is that we stay home. If we can’t do this, then what are we capable of? For now, the Netflix library, as well as the other streamers, are pretty full and people have lots to watch. But last week, Netflix shut down production, and that did get people wondering if the series and films they’re looking forward to will get terribly backed up. Sarandos responded to the concern, saying:

“It’s been a massive disruption. Every one of our productions around the world is shut down.  It’s unprecedented in history. What’s happening now is we work pretty far ahead with delivering all the episodes of our shows at once so no disruption over the next few months, maybe later in the year as physical production is not operational.”

So the way they schedule their productions has been pretty conducive to a bit of a delay. Hopefully they will be able to get back to work soon on the projects that fans are excited about like Stranger Things, The Umbrella Academy, Atypical, and plenty of others.
