INCEPTION as Retold by a Mom

Kids tend to tune their parents out after hearing things like:

  • “I’ve told you a thousand times that yada yada yada.”
  • “You never remember to blah blah blah.”
  • “If you keep sniffing that your brain cells are going to something something I don’t remember.”

On the other hand, when parents (especially mothers for some reason) reach a certain age, they tune out watching a movie when they hear things like:

  • “A journey into the mind…”
  • “An adventure to another world…”
  • “Starring Vin Diesel…”

Hearing them try to explain a sci-fi or superhero movie is hilarious. Last year, we posted a video of a guy who animated his mother’s explanation of the plot of The Matrix. Well, that same guy (YouTube user Pixelpersecond) sat down with his mom after she watched Christopher Nolan’s Inception, which is a much more complex and layered film, and the result is priceless. She keeps getting Inception star Leonardo DiCaprio confused for Matt Damon, even after her son reminds her who DiCaprio is.

If you have parents who are more film savvy, consider yourself lucky. My mom worked at a major movie studio for nearly two decades, went to countless movie screenings, and is still exactly like one of the moms in that SNL fake commercial for the “Mom Celebrity Translator.”

My mom hadn't seen Christopher Nolan's epic INCEPTION. We watched it together and afterward she told me what she thought happened, and who she thought it happened to. This is a followup to The Matrix Retold by Mom. If there's enough demand, I'd like to keep doing these.
