Incredibly Raw and Moving Trailer for HONEY BOY, an Autobiographical Film From Shia LaBeouf

We have a new trailer for the upcoming film Honey Boy, written by and starring Shia LaBeouf. The movie is an autobiographical story of LaBeouf growing up with his father and being pushed into acting while dealing with a tumultuous childhood. While we have had a front row to the antics and escapades of the actor over the years, this film will probably provide insight into his psyche and troubled history.

LaBeouf was a child actor, but has gone on to make his mark, and has had some incredible performances as an adult in recent years in films like Lawless, Fury, and my favorite, this year’s Peanut Butter Falcon. Honey Boy is rumored to be his greatest performance yet, and was the sweetheart of the Sundance Film Festival this year. Here’s the synopsis for the film:

From a screenplay by Shia LaBeouf, based on his own experiences, award-winning filmmaker Alma Har’el brings to life a young actor’s stormy childhood and early adult years as he struggles to reconcile with his father through cinema and dreams. Fictionalizing his childhood’s ascent to stardom, and subsequent adult crash-landing into rehab and recovery, Har’el casts Noah Jupe and Lucas Hedges as Otis Lort, navigating different stages in a frenetic career. LaBeouf takes on the daring and therapeutic challenge of playing a version of his own father, an ex-rodeo clown and a felon. Artist and musician FKA twigs makes her feature-film debut, playing neighbor and kindred spirit to the younger Otis in their garden-court motel home. Har’el’s feature narrative debut is a one-of-a-kind collaboration between filmmaker and subject, exploring art as therapy and imagination as hope.

This is my most anticipated film right now. I love LaBeouf, and I can’t wait to see what he has made. The film definitely looks like a gut wrenching and emotional story, and I believe it was very brave of him to tell it. Check out the trailer below, and let us know what you think.
