Inde Navarrette Clears Up HEAT 2 Casting Rumors and Reveals What Really Happened
Inde Navarrette’s name has been floating around Michael Mann’s highly anticipated Heat 2, with conflicting reports suggesting she was offered a role in the crime thriller.
Well, the actress has clarified some things and it turns out the story was a little different from what people were reporting.
During a recent appearance on The Kyle Buchanan Show, Navarrette, who has been gaining attention for her performance in Obsession, was asked directly whether she had been offered a role in Heat 2.
Her answer was immediate: “No!”
She was actually happy to have the opportunity to address the rumors, explaining, “I’m glad that you brought it up because I can say it. No, I was not offered Heat 2.”
However, that doesn't mean she wasn't in the running. Navarrette confirmed that she auditioned for the film and spent a considerable amount of time trying to land a part.
“I auditioned, I want to say, for two months from April all the way up until I don’t know if it had gotten cast, but it was just kind of no longer a conversation. I remember I sent in multiple self tapes…I was like, ‘What do you like? What do you not like?'”
Unfortunately, things eventually stopped moving forward, and she never received an offer.
Navarrette also made it clear that she would have jumped at the opportunity to work with Mann, even if it meant taking a smaller role alongside the film's “insane cast.”
“So definitely didn’t say ‘no’. But I think that’s one of those opportunities where no matter how big you get, you’re still going to get told no,” the actress concluded.
It's an interesting look at how casting works in Hollywood. An actor can spend months auditioning for a major production, only for the opportunity to disappear without ever reaching the offer stage.
As for Heat 2, Mann is putting together an impressive group of actors for his follow-up to the 1995 crime classic starring Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. Reported cast members include Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, Adam Driver, Jason Clarke, Stephen Graham, and Odessa Young.
With that kind of talent involved, it's easy to understand why Navarrette wanted to be part of the project. Mann's original Heat remains one of the great crime thrillers, and the prospect of returning to that world nearly three decades later has plenty of movie fans interested.
While Heat 2 didn't work out for Navarrette, she's got another major franchise opportunity coming her way.
Following Obsession, the actress is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Rogue in Marvel Studios' upcoming X-Men movie.
She'll appear alongside Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Scott Summers, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, and Maya Boyd as Storm. Adam Driver is also set to play the villain Nathaniel Milbury, better known as Mister Sinister.
The untitled X-Men movie is currently scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2028.
Missing out on Heat 2 is disappointing, but landing Rogue is a pretty great consolation prize. It's also a role that could keep Navarrette busy in the MCU for years to come.
