Indie Video Game Round-Up #1 - PROTODROID DELTA, LOGIC PAINT S, RETURN TO MONKEY ISLAND and More
Welcome to GeekTyrant’s first Indie Video Game news round-up. I will take a bunch of information that came out from the last week regarding indie video games and do my best to share as much as I can with you. Let’s get started! Also, be sure to let us know about any indie game projects that we should be keeping an eye on for these roundups.
First, we’ll mention the trailer for Protodroid DeLTA from Humble Games and Adam Kareem. The game gives me 3D Mega Man vibes and is a 3D action-platformer. It doesn’t just look like a Mega Man game though, the description sounds like one. You can do the stages in any order and get a unique weapon upon defeating the stage’s boss. My first impressions are that it looks okay, but definitely could use some more polish. With the game not set to release until 2023, there’s definitely time for said polish to be applied. You can add Protodroid DeLTA to your Steam and Humble (affiliate link) wishlists now.
Protodroid DeLTA is a fast and fluid 3D action-platformer set in a beautiful and hopeful solarpunk world, featuring a colorful cast of characters to meet, bosses to defeat, and hidden upgrades to discover.
Dynamic 3D action platforming - Draw upon DeLTA’s extraordinary dexterity and distinctive arsenal to navigate challenging stages. Jump and shoot in fast and fluid 3D gameplay channeling the 2D classics of the genre.
Discover a solarpunk world - Journey through the beautiful and hopeful (but not quite utopian) world of Radia, where solar power is dominant, and humanity and technology coexist with nature.
Take on stages in any order - Decide how and when to take on the Vypers. Pick from distinctive stages, fight personality-filled bosses on their home turf, and claim their unique weapons.
Vibrant characters - Learn the stories behind a diverse cast of larger-than-life Vyper Masters, rival roboticists, and other Protodroids who operate by a different code.
Seek hidden upgrades - Enhance DeLTA’s capabilities by searching for upgrades and power-ups, and master new blade techniques by locating your fellow Protodroid AnnDROID in each stage.

Third, it was recently announced by Devolver Digital that Return to Monkey Island is headed to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 8. I’ve heard great things about this entry in the series and it’s sure to be a delight for any fan.
The tangled history of Monkey Island’s most famous secret leads Guybrush Threepwood - intrepid hero, leather jacket salesman and mighty pirate - to embark on a new swash-buckling adventure through the Caribbean, determined to uncover the elusive secret once and for all. No trip back to Mêlée Island would be complete without his old friends (and foes), but while Guybrush and the evil LeChuck look certain to clash on the high seas once more, a new crew of Pirate Leaders seems to have arrived to spoil the party.

Thirteenth, JWaffleGames announced that Hellfire Tactics, the competitive autobattler, will be releasing on November 10. Hellfire Tactics is set apart by removing booster packs and pay-to-win mechanics. Every player can access all units from the start. It’s all about strategy and not about money. You can play Hellfire Tactics on November 10 via PC (Steam).
In Hellfire Tactics, 8 players compete to draft Units and build strategies to overwhelm their opponents.
Unit Bans
Hellfire Tactics will include 90+ Units and 30+ Archdemons at launch. The unique Banning system means every match will have a subset of Units and their corresponding Artifacts and Rituals banned, leading to completely different strategies every single game.
Dynamic Board Links
The board is alive and powerful links control whether a Units power can be activated or not. By customizing these links on your board you can unlock entirely new combinations for different Units.
Shared Pool Drafting
There are a limited number of units in the drafting pool so players may not find what they need if someone else has taken them. This makes scouting and being flexible with your builds incredibly important.
Fourteenth, the musical Metroidvania 9 Years of Shadows from Halberd Studios and Freedom Games announced that it will be releasing in 2023 on Nintendo Switch and PC (Epic|GOG|Steam). The game was set to release this month, but it sounds like after some feedback at PAX, Steam Next Fest, and other events, the team has decided to continue some adjustments to the game.
Control both young warrior Europa and her childhood companion Apino simultaneously to mix up attacks with offensive and healing magics. Take note of each foe’s elemental weaknesses and equip magical armor to channel one of four elements.
Music is at the core of Europa’s quest thanks to a soundtrack by celebrated composers Michiru Yamane (Castlevania series) and Norihiko Hibino (Metal Gear Solid series). Composed specifically with 432hz arrangements in mind, this scientifically proven frequency promotes feelings of healing and positivity.
