Insomniac Games Confirms Marvel's SPIDER-MAN MILES MORALES Is a Standalone Game After Confusion
Sony recently announced Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales, and they released a really cool announcement trailer for it. The game got fans super pumped up. However, there weren’t a lot of details revealed regarding the game, and there were some conflicting reports on what the game actually is.
One report says that the game is an expansion and enhancement to the previous Spider-Man game, while another says that it’s not and that it’s a brand-new, standalone game.
Simon Rutter, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Executive Vice President of European Business, told The Telegraph:
“I guess you could call it an expansion and an enhancement to the previous game. There’s a substantial Miles Morales component – which is the expansion element – but also within the game as well there’s been major enhancements to the game and the game engine, obviously deploying some of the major PlayStation 5 technology and features.”
Then, video game journalist Jason Schreier at Bloomberg contradicted those remarks with his own reporting:
“Spider-Man Miles Morales is *not* an expansion or enhancement or remaster, despite a Sony executive's comments this morning, a source tells Bloomberg News. Nor is it Spider-Man 2. It is a brand-new, standalone game similar in scope to Uncharted Lost Legacy.”
As a fan of Spider-Man, I wanted Schreier to be right that the Spider-Man Miles Morales game would be its own standalone game and not what Rutter is saying it is. The whole “expansion and enhancement to the previous game” seems to cheapen the whole thing.
Luckily, for those of you thinking the same thing, Insomniac Games confirmed that the new Spider-Man game is a standalone game! Insomniac’s James Stevenson issued a brief statement on Twitter saying:
