Inspiring Trailer for Netflix's Biopic SHIRLEY Featuring Regina King as Shirley Chisholm, the First Black US Congresswoman
An inspiring trailer has been released for Netflix’s upcoming biopic, Shirley, featuring Oscar and Emmy-winning actress Regina King (If Beale Street Could Talk, Watchmen, Jerry Maguire) as Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to the United States Congress. The film chronicles her trailblazing 1972 presidential campaign. The movie is written and directed by John Ridley, who won an Oscar for penning 12 Years a Slave.
King leads the cast, which is rounded out by Lance Reddick, Lucas Hedges, Terrence Howard, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Christina Jackson, Michael Cherrie, Dorian Crossmond Missick, Amirah Vann, W. Earl Brown, Brad James, Reina King and André Holland. The film is produced by Ridley, sisters Regina and Reina King, Anikah McLaren and Elizabeth Haggard. Jeff Skoll and Ted Gidlow serve as executive producers.
Shirley hits Netflix on March 22nd, and it looks like it’s going to be a great story, and another fantastic performance from King. Check out the trailer below:
