Intellivision Shows Off the Amico Which Looks Great for Social Gamers

During E3 Intellivision showed off their Amico gaming console. It’s something that I’ve been curious about and now we know considerably more thanks to their presentation.

The Amico is a gaming console designed for families and friends to gather around. It comes with two controllers with touchscreens and a disc button and you can even turn your phone into a controller to allow up to 8 players for some games. Speaking of games, they have a wide variety from party games to platformers to classics like Missile Command. Another cool aspect is that if you take your own controller to your friend’s house, you can access all of your games on their Amico console. Oh, and there’s also going to be a new and exclusive Earthworm Jim game for the Amico.

Now, it is made clear that the Amico is not about graphics. It definitely seems to be more about experiences. Each game will cost at most $9.99 for a digital copy or $19.99 for a physical copy and there will be no paid DLC, no microtransactions, and no in-app purchases. The online features include leaderboards for your state, country, and even the world and if you end at the top, you’ll get a certificate emailed to you. That’s pretty cool.

The Amico is available to pre-order now through Intellivision and GameStop with the latter revealing the price to be $249-299. What are your thoughts on the Amico? It feels to me like something perfect for a grandparent’s home or even more casual homes where they like the party games and where gaming is almost exclusively a social event.
