Intense First Trailer for Netflix's LEGENDS - A True Story Undercover Crime Thriller

Netflix released the trailer for its upcoming British crime series Legends, and it looks like solid show. Set in the gritty underworld of 1990s Britain, the show dives into a wild real-life operation where ordinary people were thrown into extraordinary danger.

The story centers on a desperate moment in the early ‘90s when Her Majesty's Customs & Excise couldn’t keep up with the surge of drug trafficking pouring into the UK. Their solution wasn’t subtle.

Instead of relying on seasoned spies, they recruited everyday customs officers and pushed them into deep cover. No elite training of safety net. Just regular people forced to build entirely new identities inside some of Britain’s most dangerous criminal networks. Those identities became known as “Legends.”

These aren’t polished operatives who’ve done this a dozen times. They’re normal men and women pulled from their daily lives, given minimal prep, and dropped into high-risk situations where one mistake could cost them everything. That sounds like it would make for a very interesting reality TV show.

The series leans into that tension, drawing from extensive research and interviews with those involved in the real operation.

The cast includes Steve Coogan, Tom Burke, Hayley Squires, and Aml Ameen, with a strong supporting lineup that includes Jasmine Blackborow, Douglas Hodge, Tom Hughes, Johnny Harris, Gerald Kyd, Charlotte Ritchie, Abdellatif Chaouqi, Georgia Taft, and Kem Hassan.

Legends comes from writer and showrunner Neil Forsyth, known for his work on Guilt, The Gold, and Reckless. The series is directed by Brady Hood and Julian Holmes.

The trailer sells the intensity as there’s a sense that things could spiral out of control at any moment, and that unpredictability is exactly what makes it so appealing.

Netflix is set to release Legends globally on May 7, 2026.
