Intense Trailer for True Crime Drama NITRAM Based on Devastating Mass Shooting
A new trailer and poster have been released for the film Nitram, which “explores the events leading up to the real-life devastating mass shooting in Port Arthur, Australia. It's an intimate depiction of the man and events that led up to the tragedy.”
The film is directed by Justin Kurzel from a script written by Shaun Grant. The pair previously teamed to work on True History of the Kelly Gang. The film stars Caleb Landry Jones (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Get Out) in the lead role, and he is joined by Essie Davis (The Babadook, True History of the Kelly Gang), Judy Davis (Husbands and Wives, Naked Lunch), and Anthony LaPaglia (Empire Records, Without a Trace).
Here’s the film’s full synopsis:
Nitram (Caleb Landry Jones) lives with his mother (Judy Davis) and father (Anthony LaPaglia) in suburban Australia in the Mid 1990s. He lives a life of isolation and frustration at never being able to fit in. That is until he unexpectedly finds a close friend in a reclusive heiress, Helen (Essie Davis). However, when that relationship meets a tragic end, and Nitram’s loneliness and anger grow, he begins a slow descent that leads to disaster.
The trailer for this film is so heavy. It’s telling of the great filmmaking that this film is just telling the story of a man in the time leading up to his horrific crime, and it’s so unnerving. Jones won the Best Actor Award in 2021 at the Cannes Film Festival for this role, so it sounds like a quality film. I don’t know if I’ll be able to hang in there for it, but it does look intriguing and well done.
Check out the trailer below, and watch Nitram when it’s released in theaters, on Digital Rental, and on AMC+ on March 30, 2022.
