Interesting New Story Details Revealed For Dwayne Johnson's RAMPAGE
Some new details have surfaced for Dwayne Johnson's new film project Rampage and they actually give us some story info. Up until this point, we've only had the plot of the classic Midway video game to go off of, which follows three people who are transformed into giant monsters that include a gorilla, a wolf, and a Godzilla-like lizard. Together they will wreak havoc on North American cities and landmarks and Johnson is the only person that can stop them.
The new plot details that have been revealed come from Splash Report, and they offer us a different take on the story as well as give us some new info regarding the characters that the actors play in the film. Some of those other actors include Malin Akerman, Jake Lacy, and Naomi Harris. Here's what the site says:
"The first privately owned space station is destroyed by a mysterious experiment done onboard. Three canisters from the crash land on Earth. One lands in the gorilla enclosure at the San Diego Zoo, the other in the plains of Wyoming and the last one in the Florida Everglades. The Griffin Technologies Group, headed by two siblings (Malin Akerman and Jake Lacy), tries to destroy any evidence of wrongdoing before the government finds out. It’s too late because the canisters have infected a gorilla named George, a wolf in Wyoming and an alligator. They start evolving and growing exponentially. To cover their track, the Griffin idiots decided to unleash a beacon that will make all three large animals head toward one destination: their head office located in the Willis Tower in Chicago."
The biggest change from the game to the film is that humans aren't the ones that mutate into the giant monsters, which doesn't seem like a big deal. As for Johnson's role in the film, he's an ex-marine who is "now a primatologist that raised George at the San Diego Zoo. He taught the ape sign language, and they share a special bond." So, of course, he's going to be brought in to help with the situation.
As for Naomie Harris, her character is a scientist who is fired from Griffin Tech, and she will help Johnson try "to stop Chicago from being destroyed by those humongous beasts." What do you all think about the new story details that have been revealed?
The movie is being directed by Brad Payton (San Andreas) and as a fan of the classic game, it sounds like the movie could be fun! When previously talking about the film, the director explained:
"With Rampage, we are using our love of the original game as our inspiration. Then we’re going to build a movie, like San Andreas, that is really going to surprise people in what it delivers. It’s going to be a lot more emotional, a lot scarier and a lot more real than you’d expect. So you look at that original concept about a lab that affects these animals and makes them rampage, and that’s the nugget. If they called me tomorrow to do Call of Duty, I wouldn’t want to play any of the Call of Duty games. I’d have to come up with something that deserves to be its own thing. That’s where a lot of these movies can go wrong.
"I’m really excited about Rampage. It’s a monster film, so the stuff that I did on Incarnate, stretching my muscles in the horror space helped. This “small, character piece” with horror in it trained me to get ready for [Rampage]. Obviously, it’s a much bigger movie and it’s meant for a broader audience, but there still horror elements, there’s still a monster movie at the core. And I get to work with Dwayne [Johnson] again, I’m so excited about it. There’s the three, the lizard, the ape and the wolf, so we’re keeping it similar but you’ll have to tune into the tease on where we are going with this."
Rampage also stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Marley Shelton, Joe Manganiello, Jack Quaid, Breanne Hill, Matt Gerald, P.J. Byrne, Levi Bowling, and Allyssa Brooke. It's set to be released on April 20, 2018.
