Interesting New Story Details Revealed for the TOMB RAIDER Movie Reboot

Movie Tomb Raider by Joey Paur

We already knew that the upcoming Tomb Raider movie reboot starring Alicia Vikander would be using elements from the most recent video game adventures of Lara Croft, but today we've got some new details on the story to share with you thanks to HeyUGuys and an interview they had with Tomb Raider producer Graham King. There's an interesting twist they've added to the story involving Croft's search for her father. King explains:

"Well this is kind of what we call a 'back to the roots story.' This is a young Lara Croft in search to see if her father is dead or alive, so it has a very emotional part to it and I think that’s what Alicia found so interesting about it. I think the storytelling is really good and I think we’ve got the right crew and a great director and I think it’s going to be really fun making a film like this."

Lara's father is Richard James Croft, and he's never been the focus of any of Lara's video game storylines. Lara's father Richard did make an appearance in the original Tomb Raider film. He was played by Angelina Jolie's real-life dad Jon Voight. Here are a few details about her father that have been learned through the game franchise.

According to the storylines told in Tomb Raider Legend, Anniversary and Underworld Lara's father Richard Croft was an archaeologist, who after his wife's disappearance travelled all over the world investigating archaeological sites and ruins in search for a stone dais, similar to the one where she had disappeared. During this time, he raised and taught Lara alone. However, he disappeared and was declared legally dead, although his remains have never been found. Even Lara unearthed human remains that could not be identified as his. From what Winston says, we are inclined to believe that he had quite a collection of artefacts.

It was revealed in an unlockable biography that he died while on a dig in Cambodia. I'm sure Warner Bros. will change some things up for the movie, though. Who knows, maybe he'll be found alive in the film. If that's the case, I can see the studio wanting to cast a big popular actor in the role.

Tomb Raider will be released on March 16, 2018.

During our interview for Allied, Stefan Pape spoke to Hollywood powerhouse Producer Graham King about future projects, one of them being the reboot of Tomb Raider starring Alicia Vikander and how it will differ from the Angelina Jolie movies.
