INVINCIBLE Creator Reveals Meaning Behind Mark’s New Blue Suit and It Has a Spider-Man Connection
If you’ve been wondering what the thought process behind Mark Grayson’s new blue suit in Invincible Season 3, showrunner and creator Robert Kirkman has offered an explination.
Turns out, there’s a deeper reason behind the color swap, and it ties directly to Spider-Man’s own transformation.
Speaking with The Direct, Kirkman confirmed that Mark’s costume change was very much intentional and rooted in classic comic book storytelling.
Kirkman said: "That's definitely by design. When Cory Walker, Ryan Ottley, and I were doing the comics, we very much tried to play up the tropes of the comic industry. The superhero getting the new costume is something that happens in almost every superhero story."
One of the most iconic examples is Spider-Man’s shift into his black suit, which dramatically altered his personality. Peter Parker’s symbiote suit didn’t just enhance his powers; it brought out his aggression, pushing him closer to the edge.
Kirkman continued: "The kind of darkness that comes from that change and the emergence of Venom as a clear villain that comes from that is a really cool addition to the mythos of [Spider-Man].
"And I think there are a lot of worthy additions to the mythos of Invincible that show up during this costume change, that kind of mirror what happened with Spider-Man."
Invincible Season 3 is now in full swing on Prime Video, with episodes 1-4 available to watch on Prime Video now.
