INVINCIBLE Season 4 Adds Matthew Rhys as Dinosaurus and Here’s Why That’s Huge

Invincible fans got some exciting news out of San Diego Comic-Con as it was confirmed that Matthew Rhys (The Americans) has officially joined the cast for Season 4. We also now know that he will be voicing the character Dinosaurus, a fan-favorite character from the comics who’s about to shake things up in a major way.

The announcement came during Robert Kirkman’s panel at SDCC, and if you weren’t there, the official Invincible X/Twitter account had you covered, sharing a look at the character in all his red dinosaur glory.

At first glance, you might think Dinosaurus is just another monster-of-the-week for Mark Grayson to smash through, but if you know the comics, you know this guy is a game-changer.

Dinosaurus is not your average mindless brute. Debuting in issue #68, this highly intelligent dinosaur-hybrid is actually the split personality of scientist David Anders. Think Spider-Man’s Lizard, but with a moral compass that’s way more complicated.

Dinosaurus genuinely wants to save the world, focusing on environmental preservation, and that shared sense of purpose brings him and Mark together as unlikely allies.

But this is Invincible, so you know things won’t stay simple for long. After a falling out with Cecil, Dinosaurus starts walking a fine line between hero and villain, forcing Mark to grapple with some serious ethical dilemmas.

Without spoiling too much, let’s just say his story arc is one of the most compelling in the series, an ally who becomes an antagonist in a way that hits hard and feels earned.

Rhys taking on this role is a fantastic choice. The guy has serious acting chops, and his voice work could give Dinosaurus the depth and nuance fans would want for the character. As the looming Viltrumite war inches closer, Dinosaurus is going to be a key piece of Mark’s journey, pushing him to define what kind of hero he really wants to be.

Invincible Season 4 is currently in production, and with a fifth season already greenlit, the future of the series on Prime Video looks incredible. Buckle up, because if the show stays true to the comics, Dinosaurus is going to deliver some of the wildest, most thought-provoking moments yet.
