Is This Long-Gone GAME OF THRONES Character Finally Coming Back in Season 7?
It's been a little while since we've checked in with what's happening across the pond in Belfast, where filming for the highly-anticipated seventh season of Game of Thrones is about to begin. Last year, mega-fans were on high alert for sightings of Kit Harington, because the previous season ended with a cliffhanger about whether or not he was really dead. (Turns out he was, but not for long.) Now there's been a new sighting of a different character near the set, and it's someone who fans have been wondering about for a long time. Beware: possible spoilers ahead.
Remember Gendry, Arya's traveling buddy who also happens to be the bastard son of Robert Baratheon? He was last seen freed from Dragonstone by Ser Davos, rowing away toward King's Landing, but we haven't seen him since season 3.
Looks like that could change, since actor Joe Dempsie was spotted in Belfast yesterday:
As Vanity Fair (who alerted us to this news) points out, Dempsie's presence in the Belfast airport isn't a guarantee that he'll appear again on the show, but all things considered, it's a pretty good bet. Especially since now that all three of Cersei's children have died, Gendry is the last one with Baratheon blood in him (the other kids didn't actually have Baratheon blood in them because they were fathered by Jaime, but Cersei kept up the illusion that they were Robert's children to save face and keep control of the throne). Now that Cersei has taken over the throne, it would be very interesting to see Gendry resurface to try to stake a claim himself — but oh yeah, they also have to worry about Dany and her dragons heading straight for them.
So basically, this isn't confirmed, but it's a step in the right director for what could be a very cool return for a long-lost GOT character. Do you want to see Gendry come back?
(Apologies for the unrelated header photo. Didn't want to spoil anyone.)
