Isabela Merced Joins Dakota Johnson in Sony's Marvel Project MADAME WEB
Isabela Merced (Dora: The Explorer, Transformers: The Last Knight, Father of the Bride) will join Dakota Johnson in Sony Pictures’ upcoming Marvel project Madame Web. Celeste O’Connor (Ghostbusters: Afterlife) is also set to co-star in the film along with Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria).
The film will tell the origin story of Madame Web, “a clairvoyant whose psychic abilities allow her to see within the spider world itself.” In the comics, Madame Web is “an elderly blind woman suffering from a chronic neuromuscular disease that makes it difficult to move and breathe, and as such, she’s connected to a life support system that looks like a spider web. The clairvoyant character has precognitive abilities and once helped Spider-Man find a kidnap victim.”
S.J. Clarkson is on board to direct the film from a script written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, who also wrote the terrible film Morbius. I don’t have much hope for Madame Web; Sony executives just tend to make all the bad decisions when Marvel isn’t around holding their hands.
As for Merced, she is set to appear in the upcoming remake of Father of the Bride. She also stars as Juliet in the upcoming feature film Rosaline, 20th Century’s Revisionist Romeo & Juliet. She is currently shooting the film Turtles All the Way Down, which is a film adaptation of John Green’s New York Times best-selling novel.
