Issa Rae and Adam McKay Teaming Up to Adapt NICE WHITE PARENTS Podcast for HBO

Actress, writer, and producer Issa Rae (Insecure, The Lovebirds) has teamed up with former SNL writer Adam McKay, who wrote Step-Brothers, Ant-Man, The Big Short, and Vice, to adapt the podcast Nice White Parents into a half-hour series for HBO.

Variety reports that the series "is described as a satirical look at the conflict and comedy that arise when highly resourced white parents, who claim to have the best intentions, wield their influence over generations of black and brown students within the NY public school system.”

The project is shopping for a showrunner, but it is known that Rae and Montrel McKay will executive produce via the new production company, HooRae. Adam McKay and Todd Schulman will executive produce via Hyperobject Industries, which is currently under a first-look deal with HBO.

The podcast just launched in July of this year, and is under the Serial Productions banner, reported by Chana Joffe-Walt, produced by Julie Snyder; edited by Sarah Koenig, Neil Drumming and Ira Glass. I love past Serial podcasts, but hadn’t even heard of this one. I’m adding it to my subscriptions though. I am a big fan of Rae and McKay, and so many of the projects that HBO has put out lately. Let us know if you listened to the podcast, and/or if you’re looking forward to the series Nice White Parents at HBO.
