Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani Set to Star in Rom-Com THE LOVEBIRDS
I love Kumail Nanjiani! He is such a solid comedian. He has such a fun sense of humor. My husband and I started watching Silicon Valley a while back, but never did get caught up because of the sheer volume of stuff we watch. It’s on our list though. We also really loved The Big Sick, which is the story of how Nanjiani met his wife in real life. He and his wife, Emily V. Gordon, co-wrote the movie, which he starred in with Zoe Kazan, and received a Best Original Screenplay nomination at the Oscars in 2017. So I was really excited when I heard that Nanjiani was starring in a new rom-com, and that Issa Rae is starring with him!
Issa Rae is an actress and producer nominated for a Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy for her performance in the HBO series Insecure, of which she is a co-creator, producer, writer and actress, and is known for her roles in Orange is the New Black and The Hate U Give, among others. These are some heavy hitters with big talent, so I can’t wait to see how this turns out! I loved that The Big Sick was a new kind of rom-com that didn’t rely solely on sappy predictability or raunchiness to make it work. It was just real and funny and it majorly worked. I’m hopeful this movie and this duo turn out another great rom-com.
The Lovebirds will be directed by Michael Showalter, who directed The Big Sick. The movie is in pre-production now, and we will keep you posted when we have more details. Does this sound like a film you’d enjoy?
